What is a Cellular Alarm Communicator?
The most important part of any alarm system is the line of communication between the home or business and the alarm monitoring company. All the motion detectors, smoke alarms, and door sensors won’t do much if they can’t alert the monitoring system that something bad is happening.
Historically, this was done by connecting the alarm system to the telephone landline that was installed in the building. When an alert started, a signal was sent along that line to the monitors and they would respond appropriately. Usually they would contact the building owner, or the business or family that contracted their services, and see whether a real alarm was taking place. If it was a false alarm, the alert was cancelled. If it was a real problem, they’d contact the proper authorities.
But as more and more people are ditching their landlines, or building companies simply aren’t installing them anymore, alarm companies had to come up with a new and better solution. The answer is a cellular alarm communicator, or wireless alarm communicator.
A cellular alarm communicator is exactly what it sounds like – it’s a device that connects to the wireless network installed in the building (such as a wifi network) and transfers any alarm signal through that service instead of relying on a landline. In most situations, as long as you can make a cell phone call in the building, you can use a cellular alarm communicator.
There are some great benefits to using this type of system. One, it can be programmed to send you a text message if something happens. Two, it’s another way to remote monitor your home or business. And three, it’s very easy to install and use.
